I have photographed a wedding at the museum. One thing I absolutely loved about photographing at this venue was the flexibility for space, the staff were fantastic, and the food was amazing! The endless possibilities for a variety of different photos is beyond dream worthy as a photographer. At some venues, you really have to think hard to get creative with photos, but here at the museum, I was able to be creative every direction I turned. The wedding that I photographed, the couple got ready at the Dearborn Inn down the street, had their ceremony at the Anderson Theater inside the museum and then had their reception right in central hall surrounded by so much history and so many exhibits that it added so much to their wedding day.
One thing I would like to note is that if you don’t have a ton of guests at your wedding that will be guaranteed on the dance floor no matter what, they will be walking around the museum instead of the dance floor. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but it’s something to consider when hiring your entertainment/DJ for the night.
Overall, I think that more people should have their wedding at a museum. If I could go back in time and get married again, it’s very possible I would have chosen this route for my own wedding, possibly even at The Henry Ford!
