Here’s the thing about Solitude Links that nobody tells you upfront. This golf course venue doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The second you drive up to it, you know it’s something special. You feel it the second you walk through the front doors and look out through those huge windows over the rolling greens and mature trees. There’s enough breathing room out there that your wedding day actually feels like yours, not a copy of the last hundred weddings that happened in the same banquet hall. That’s why the couples who find this place tend to fall for it hard, and honestly, so did I the first time I photographed a wedding here.

Solitude Links Golf Course sits in Kimball Township, Michigan, right off I-69 with easy access to Port Huron and I-94. It’s tucked away enough to feel private and seculuded, without making your out of town guests drive to the middle of nowhere.

Why Couples Keep Choosing This Venue

The rolling terrain gives you those elevated, sweeping views without the stiff, buttoned up energy some golf courses have. Mature trees, well kept greens, and enough open space that I can chase good light in a dozen different directions without ever walking more than a few steps. If you’ve looked at my work from here before, that’s not an accident, this place just gives a photographer a lot to work with.

What I hear most from couples is that it feels elegant without being stuffy. It’s also not rustic, but feels natural in a country club feel. You get the polish of a golf course wedding without the pressure to make your day look like everyone else’s. It’s one of the most beautiful courses I’ve photographed, and being set slightly apart from everything else gives it a real sense of seclusion that’s hard to find this close to Port Huron.

What to Actually Plan For

Golf course weddings come with a little more logistics than your average venue, so here’s what’s worth sorting out early. You’ll want to coordinate with the venue on course play schedules, especially if your ceremony or photos are happening during peak golfing hours. Most couples work this out easily, but it’s worth a conversation early rather than a surprise later. It also helps to have a photographer, like myself, who has photographed numerous weddings at golf courses and we can work around the golfers and actually, I have been known to eliminate the golfers from the background during editing.

Have a weather backup plan, same as you would for any outdoor venue. The clubhouse is right there as your safety net, but it’s worth walking through how the transition indoors would actually work if you need it, so you’re not scrambling the morning of.

The ceremony spot, right at the gazebo on the lake, has a paved path the whole way down, so no one’s picking grass out of their heels and grandma can get down the aisle with ease. If you’re marrying in the summer, think about your guests’ comfort in the heat, a few fans set out on the seats go a long way. And if you’ve got elderly guests or anyone who has trouble with stairs, give them a heads up about the elevator, the clubhouse sits up above the ceremony space and those stairs are steep. The elevator handles it easily, they just need to know it’s there.
