The Detroit Institute of Arts offers one of Michigan’s most stunning wedding venues. This iconic museum combines world-class art with elegant event spaces, creating an unforgettable backdrop for your special day.

Gabbie and Scotts wedding at the DIA was nothing short of outrageously, gorgeous love! Starting at the Shinola Hotel in Downtown Detroit and moving onto the museum for their ceremony and reception helped wrap things all together for their classic Detroit style wedding. Their wedding ended up being one of my absolute favorites!

Start Your Day In Downtown Detroit

If you are looking for the perfect location to spend some time and get ready before your wedding in downtown Detroit, look no further than the Shinola Hotel. It’s located right in the heart of downtown Detroit and has all of the historic and architectural charm that just screams Detroit! It’s where art deco and mid-century modern meet. The rooms are a photographer’s dream with light pouring through the windows in a soft, natural way. On Gabbie and Scott’s wedding day, it was raining early on so it was pretty cloudy, but the soft light still helped to illuminate the room in the perfect way.

Why Choose the DIA for Your Wedding

The DIA transforms your wedding into a cultural celebration. You’ll exchange vows surrounded by priceless masterpieces and architectural beauty. Your guests will experience something truly unique.

This historic Detroit venue provides multiple spaces for ceremonies and receptions. Each gallery offers its own character and charm. You can customize your event to match your vision perfectly.

Stunning Ceremony Locations

The DIA features several breathtaking ceremony spaces. The Rivera Court stands as the crown jewel of the museum. Diego Rivera’s famous Detroit Industry Murals create a powerful backdrop for your vows.

The Great Hall offers another spectacular option. Its grand staircase and soaring ceilings add drama to your entrance. Natural light filters through beautiful windows, creating perfect photo opportunities.

Couples can also choose intimate gallery spaces. The European galleries provide classical elegance. Modern art spaces offer contemporary flair.

With light pouring down through the glass ceiling, Gabbie and Scott said their vows in front of their friends and family right inside the Rivera Room. This is a stunning hall filled with murals (painted by Diego Rivera, himself) depicting the strength of Detroit as a city.

Reception Spaces That Impress

Your reception at the Detroit Institute of Arts will amaze your guests. The museum offers various spaces to accommodate different wedding sizes.

The Rivera Court holds up to 160 guests for seated dinners. This space features climate-controlled comfort year-round. Your guests dine beneath world-renowned murals.

Gabbie and Scott had a cocktail hour for their guests between their ceremony and reception. Their cocktail hour was in the beautiful Kresge Court. Because they had done a first look and we got most of their portraits done before their ceremony, they were able to attend their cocktail hour with their friends and family. The Great Hall was where Gabbie and Scott set up their reception for dinner and speeches. It was the perfect elegance to match the rest of the day. To accommodate dancing, their reception poured into the Rivera room right through the arch. Their reception was seamless and full of love and laughter.

We took family photos right near the staircase into the Great Hall and we took wedding party photos outside the building on the popular white marble staircase.
