As a husband-and-wife wedding photography and videography team based in Metro Detroit, we’ve shot in just about every kind of weather and landscape. We’re here to help you find a location that not only photographs beautifully, but also fits your vibe.

Here are some of our favorite wedding photo locations in Michigan, broken down by season – with a few unexpected gems you might not find on other lists.

Spring: Blossoms and Fresh Starts in these Locations

  1. Cranbrook Gardens: Bloomfield Hills
    • Cranbrook is the kind of place that looks like it fell out of a European fairytale. In spring, the gardens explode with tulips and flowering trees. There’s classic architecture, peaceful reflecting pools, and just the right amount of secret garden magic.
  2. Belle Isle Conservatory: Detroit
    • If spring in Michigan is being a bit… unpredictable (hello, April snow), Belle Isle’s Conservatory gives you a weather-proof option with lush greenery, tropical plants, and moody natural light.

Summer: Sunlight and City Vibes

3. The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) + Surrounding Area: Detroit

The white marble steps, ornate doors, and overall classic grandeur of the DIA make it a favorite for timeless portraits. Bonus: walk just a block or two and you’re in the heart of Midtown with murals, cafes, and that edgy Detroit charm.

4. Stony Creek Metropark: Shelby Township

Perfect for couples who love natural settings without going too far north. You’ll find fields, tall trees, and sunny beaches for golden hour magic. Bring a canoe for some gorgeous and fun couples portraits on the lake.

Fall: Moody Foliage and Cozy Color Palettes

5. Kensington Metropark: Milford

With its miles of wooded trails and lakeside views, Kensington in October is straight out of a moody romance novel. The vibrant leaves, soft lighting, and open space make it one of our favorite fall wedding photo locations in Michigan.

6. Historic Greenmead Village: Livonia

This is a hidden gem: old barns, vintage white chapels, picket fences, and trees that light up in the fall. It has small-town warmth with room to get creative.

Winter: Snowy Romance and Urban Elegance

7. Downtown Rochester

In December, Rochester is lit, literally. The Big Bright Light Show turns the entire downtown area into a glowing wonderland. It’s whimsical, festive, and totally unique for winter wedding portraits. Grab some hot chocolate from Sanders and cuddle up next to each other.

8. The Book Tower: Detroit

Recently restored to its former glory, The Book Tower is one of Detroit’s most visually striking indoor spaces. From its grand staircase to the ornate ceilings and luxurious interior design, it offers a cinematic backdrop for wedding photos – especially perfect for couples who want a mix of historic architecture and refined elegance. Whether you’re doing portraits in the atrium or tucked into one of the lounges, it’s a winter-friendly option that delivers serious wow factors.

Bonus: Year-Round Favorites

9. Eastern Market Murals: Detroit

Vibrant, bold, and constantly changing. If you want wedding photos with personality and color, this is the place to go. Works beautifully in any season with the right styling.

10. Your Venue (Yes, Really)

Some of the most meaningful wedding photos we’ve taken were just outside the ceremony site or tucked into a quiet corner of the venue. A good photographer can find creative angles and light almost anywhere. Even if a spot looks ugly to you, your photographer will most likely see that space in a different light. Trust your photographer and things will work out perfectly.

Finding that perfect wedding photo locaiton

Choosing your wedding photo location in Metro Detroit doesn’t have to be stressful. Think about your love story, your season, and your style. We always help our couples scout the perfect spot and build time into the timeline so you’re never rushed – and the result is real, beautiful imagery that feels just like you!

One thing to keep in mind is to check for permissions and permits needed. So many great locations allow us to come into their space to use it for photography purposes and we want to make sure we’re doing things the correct way, being respectful, and following their rules. Many locations have either started requiring an expensive permit or have refused photography all together because people in the past have disrespected their space and rules. Let’s make sure we all work together so we can keep going to these places.
