Hello and Welcome!

We’re Erika and Stephen! We are a nerdy husband and wife who loves adventure and creating adventures and art for couples in love! Stephen is the videographer and I, Erika, am the photographer. One thing that defines us as a couple is we’re inseparable. We do just about everything together and we’re best friends. We absolutely love to hear about others’ love stories and we feed into that when creating the memories for your wedding or elopement day.

We currently live in the Metro Detroit area of Michigan and love it here. I am originally from Indiana where I was born and raised in Mishawaka, IN and lived and went to school in Indianapolis, IN for 6 years. Stephen is originally from the Metro Detroit area. I think one thing that has become more common is online dating. This is where Stephen and I met originally when I was living in Indianapolis. We went several years living long distance until I was able to move to Michigan. I think this is one thing we have been able to relate with a lot of couples. There’s nothing to be ashamed of, just be careful.

Like I mentioned, we are 100% nerds. Stephen’s video games are a part of him, especially Nintendo. I love to read and watch movies especially fantasy and mystery. Think Lord of the Rings fused with Super Mario and you’ve got who we are. We love to relate with our couples when it comes to this and helps us to help you!

After 5.5 years of dating, Stephen finally proposed and over a year later, we got married in 2018. We went through all of the traditional wedding planning. It was all worth the stress and worry during the planning to be able to celebrate us with our friends and family on our wedding day. We of course had a nerdy wedding with a fusion of the Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. Two games we have always related with from the very beginning. Animal Crossing brought us together when we couldn’t physically be with each other because of the distance. Two very important things we wanted to make sure our wedding budget went to were photography and the food. Photography for us, for those memories captured and food for our guests. I can’t tell you how many weddings I have attended as a guest where the food was subpar or not good at all.

Everyone goes through this and the best advice we have given to those planning their wedding is to make sure you take time for just the two of you during the time leading up to your wedding day and to take time to just breathe. One thing I do wish I had done and would do if I had to do this all over again (with Stephen of course) would be to go off on an all day elopement adventure, just the two of us. Then have a nice, fancy dinner with our closest friends and family. Now that I know about this type of option after some years of doing wedding photography, this is what I probably would do instead of the traditional wedding.

For the past year, I have come to realize more and more that planning a traditional wedding can be so stressful and a lot of people don’t have it as easy as I did when it comes to support from family members. Or those family members are being very overbearing and they want to make all the decisions for you. This is when an elopement can be the best option. I will deep dive more in a later post about when an elopement and why an all day elopement can be the best option for you. However, one thing is clear, is that your wedding day and when you say your vows is ALL about you and your fiance, not your mother, not your Aunt Margaret, not your Uncle John. It’s ALLLLLLLLLL (I can’t repeat this enough) about your love for each other and YOUR life. An elopement can help celebrate you and your significant other. If you still want to celebrate with family, you can have a full on reception (I’ve seen a lot of couples do this) or just a nice dinner with those that are closest to you.
